01

What does it do?

Sylfirm X is a radiofrequency microneedling platform that we use selectively for concerns where conventional microneedling, or a single-mode approach, may not be enough. What makes it particularly interesting clinically is the ability to work with different RF delivery modes. In our practice, this allows us to approach concerns such as pigmentation, redness, acne scarring and selected skin-quality changes with greater consideration of the underlying skin condition. The treatment is not chosen simply because Sylfirm X is available: we first assess the skin, the concern, its severity and the patient’s tolerance, and then decide whether Sylfirm X is the right technology, and how we want to use it.

How we decide

Sylfirm X offers different RF delivery characteristics, and I use that flexibility according to the clinical problem rather than following one universal protocol. For some patients the objective may be to address pigmentary or vascular components; for others the priority may be texture, acne scarring or overall skin quality. The same machine can therefore have a very different role in two different patients.

Why we use it

I don’t use Sylfirm X simply as a skin-tightening treatment. What interests me about Sylfirm X is its versatility. When I assess a patient, I am rarely looking at just one problem: pigmentation may coexist with redness, acne scars with enlarged pores. Sylfirm X gives me the ability to approach different skin concerns using radiofrequency in different ways, rather than treating every patient with one standard protocol.

Who is it suitable for?

Selected patients, decided one at a time. Before treatment I look at the skin type, the primary concern, the depth and nature of the problem, previous treatments and how the skin is likely to respond. I then decide whether Sylfirm X is appropriate — and if it is, which mode and treatment approach make sense for that particular patient. The important part is not the machine. It is the clinical decision behind it.

Is Sylfirm X right for you?

May be considered when

  • The clinical assessment suggests RF microneedling can meaningfully address the concern
  • The skin can tolerate the treatment appropriately
  • More than one concern coexists, such as pigmentation with redness, or scarring with pores
  • A carefully controlled intervention suits the skin better than more energy

May not be appropriate when

  • The dominant problem is better addressed with a laser, ultrasound or non-invasive RF
  • Resurfacing, topical therapy or another modality is the more appropriate answer
  • The skin needs medical treatment to settle before any device is used
  • It would be chosen only because the platform is available

This is decided at assessment, not in advance. Suitability depends on your anatomy, your skin and what you would like to change.

  • 04

    How long is a session?

Usually thirty to sixty minutes, including time for topical anaesthetic, and typically planned as a course of sessions spaced several weeks apart.

  • 05

What is the downtime and recovery?

Redness and mild swelling for one to three days is usual, with a slightly rough texture as the skin recovers.

  • 06

    What should you expect?

Change is gradual and cumulative across the course, and what improves depends on what was treated: evenness of tone, the appearance of redness, texture and scarring, or the overall quality of the skin. Improvement is assessed between sessions rather than promised in advance.

Every patient is different. Your doctor will explain what to expect for your own treatment before it begins.

Combinations, and when it may not be chosen

I don’t treat the machine. I treat the skin. Sylfirm X is not a fixed protocol in my practice: it is one of several technologies I can consider after assessing what the patient’s skin actually needs, and it is often planned alongside medical treatment and skincare. Where the dominant problem belongs to another modality, that modality is chosen instead.
